Services for Seniors and Persons with Special Needs

magnifying lensLarge Print Books - The Fond du Lac Public Library has a growing collection of large print books, both fiction and nonfiction, located near the Help Desk on the first floor. Deposit collections of large print books are also provided to local nursing homes.

Audio Books – Many popular and classic titles are available on compact disc and/or on cassette. Some titles are abridged and others are full-length. Labels on the front of the container indicate the type. Cassettes and CDs are located in the northwest corner of the first floor next to the videos.

Downloadable Audio Books – A new program provides access to audio books that can be downloaded. Listen to them on your PC; download them to digital audio player, PDA or other portable device; or burn them to CD. For more information, ask at the Reference Desk or call the library at 929-7080 and select option 4 for the Reference Desk.

Homebound Program – If you, or someone you know, is a resident of Fond du Lac and is unable to come to the library due to physical limitations, the library has a free program that can provide a link between you and other homebound residents and the many types of materials the library has to offer. Call the library at 929-7080 and select option 3 for the Circulation Desk.

  • A computer catalog with large print is available on the first floor near the help desk. This computer has an extra large screen.
  • An internet computer with large print is available on the second floor near the reference desk. This computer has an extra large screen. A large type keyboard and a special mouse are available at the Reference Desk.
  • A typewriter is available to the public on the second floor in one of the study rooms. Please ask at the Reference Desk on the second floor.
  • A Low-Vision reader and TV screen for magnifying materials is available in one of the second floor study rooms. Please ask at the Reference Desk on the second floor.
  • Magnifying glasses are available for in library use at the Reference and Help Desks.
  • A Wheelchair and a Walker are available for public use within the library. Please ask at the Circulation Desk.

Telephone reference – Need a telephone number, want to reserve a book, find out hours of programs, ask a reference question, etc., call the Fond du Lac Public Library at 929-7080 during operating hours and choose Option 4. (Reference Desk)

WI Library for the Blind and Physically handicapped – Milwaukee - The Wisconsin Library for the Blind supplies books in Braille and recorded books and playback equipment to state residents qualifying for this service. The FDLPL has application forms and information at the Reference Desk on the second floor.
