Rank the Lake

With temperatures heating up this week, nothing feels quite as good as a swim. As residents of Fond du Lac, we're lucky to have access to beautiful Lake Winnebago. Did you know that Lake Winnebago is the largest inland lake in Wisconsin at 215 square miles? That's pretty huge! According to the National Atlas of the United States of America, it's actually the third largest freshwater lake completely in the confines of one state (within the lower 48). The largest is Lake Okeechobee in Florida at 700 sq. miles and number two is Red Lake in Minnesota at 452 sq. miles.

Having such a huge resource is great for us; it provides entertainment all year long. In summer, there is boating, swimming and fishing. In winter, there's ice fishing and sturgeon season.

We've got lots of information about area recreation, including state parks, up in the Seefeld area on the Second Floor. Feel free to ask staff at the Reference Desk for help finding information on all the outdoor recreation possibilities available in Wisconsin.
