Community comes through for FDLPL Express branch
The Fond du Lac Public Library asked, and it has received. After announcing that it needed to raise $40,000 from the community to open an historic branch location, the library has surpassed its goal in just eight weeks.
“This is just phenomenal,” said library Director Ken Hall. “We now have the funds to open and furnish what will be a real asset to our community. We’re bowled over and very grateful.”
To date, the library has received just over $42,000, including $20,000 from Fond du Lac business woman Judith Berger and a $10,000 from an anonymous contributor who challenged the community to match that amount.
The $42,000 will be enough to paint, carpet and furnish the library branch.
Hall hopes that the community will continue to give to allow the branch to be equipped with amenities that the public has grown to expect from their public library, which include a self-checkout station, Wi-Fi service and special learn-and-play furniture in the Children’s section (pictured here).
Hall said interior construction is expected to begin any day, and he expects to open doors in mid-September. A grand opening will be held on Saturday, October 22, with a special guests and surprises.
The library welcomes donations from the public. Donation forms – and a donation watering can – are available at the library’s main desk and at the bookmobile parked in front of Festival Foods. Anyone who donates $100 or more will have their names added to a plaque at the Express branch.
Donations to the Fond du Lac Public Library are tax deductible. Checks should be written to Fond du Lac Public Library, 32 Sheboygan St., Fond du Lac, WI 54935. A donation receipts are available. For more information, contact Director Ken Hall at (920) 929-7080, ext. 133, or [email protected].
