Desk unveiling at grand opening

What’s under the cover? The grand opening of FDLPL Express, the Fond du Lac Public Library’s first branch, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, will feature a major unveiling. The wrapping will come off the branch’s circulation desk, which was designed and created locally.

“It’s absolutely one-of-a-kind,” said library Director Ken Hall. “And it’s amazing.”

The grand opening also will feature refreshments provided by Agnesian EZ Care, free activities for kids and appearances by the library’s mascot, Browser, and Agnesian’s Aggie the Bear.

The featured desk is a project by Lindsey Bovinet, of Interior Systems, Inc.; Axel Mendez and Paco de la Torre of AMC Countertops; Susan Fiebig and Trista Holz, of Fond du Lac Visual Arts; and architect Tom Meiklejohn.

FDLPL Express opened November 17 at The Shops at Johnson Crossing, on east Johnson Street. It features a to-go collection of materials with best sellers and new releases, a sizable children’s corner and materials to help with busy lives, featuring cooking, crafting, home repair and more. Patrons can use the computer catalog, place holds and pick up materials.

FDLPL Express replaces the bookmobile formerly parked in front of Festival Foods. It’s open 25 hours a week, including weekends, an increase of nine hours a week over the bookmobile schedule. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays; 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
