Special Storytime for youngest 'readers'

Ever try to get a toddler to sit still for a half-hour? Who’s that’s foolhardy? Certainly not the Storytime presenters at the Fond du Lac Public Library. They’ve specially designed Tiny Tots Storytimes for children ages 12 months to 23 months that uses puppets, music, singing, lots of movement along with reading aloud.

All this toddler fun has a very serious purpose. The activities have been created to prepare the child to learn and, eventually, read on his own. Along with expanding the child’s attention span and sensory experiences, parents learn some early literacy development tools to use at home.

“Tiny Tots lets you bond with your child, playing and singing together,” said Children’s Library Assistant Gabriela Langholff. “It also lets the children interact with one another.”

Tiny Tots is held twice on Tuesday mornings, at 9:30 a.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. No registration is necessary, and the program is free. Current sessions run through February 28, with another series starting March 20 and running through April 17.

Tiny Tots is one of four free Storytimes at the library. Magical Storytime is for children ages 24 months to 35 months; Once Upon a Storytime is for ages 3 years to 5 years; and Family Storytime is for everyone.

The full schedule is posted on the Calendar. For more information, call the Children’s Desk at (920) 929-7080, ext. 127.
