Local author discusses new novel set in FDL area

Local author Richard Curtis Hauschild has published a prequel to his popular Ledge Trilogy, The Book of Roland. Hauschild will talk about and read from this new book, discuss the writing process and sell and sign copies of his books in a presentation at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The event is free and open to the public; registration not required.

Copies of Hauschild’s books are available for borrowing at the library. Holds can be placed online or by calling the Help Desk at (920) 929-7080, ext. 131.

The Book of Roland is a prequel to the Ledge Trilogy (The Ledge, Jersey Flats and Holyland), which all are set in the Fond du Lac area. It finds author Roland Heinz at a crossroads. Stinging from a heartbreaking divorce and disgusted with the books he’s written so far, he takes refuge in the small town of Chilton. The book tracks Roland’s metamorphosis from rock bottom to a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. One player in this transformation is the mysterious Yeva, a Russian émigré and Roland’s lover/editor whose dangerous past embroils them both. Despite his literary and monetary success, Roland longs for a family and legacy. Taking clues from his past, his friends and even a ghost, Roland forms a plan that leads him to magazine writer Molly Costello, happily.

Hauschild was born in and raised in Illinois. After earning a degree in English, he tried his hand at several occupations: newspaper reporter, medical equipment salesman, songwriter for Dave Mason and David Cassidy, freelance Hollywood production manager and – in a temporary job that lasted 13 years – courier for Consultants Laboratory in Fond du Lac. He’s now devoting his time fully to writing, which includes screenplays for Hollywood.
