Exclusive e-books available through 3M Cloud

Nearly 200 additional e-books are available exclusively to Fond du Lac Public Library users through the new 3M Cloud Library. The added 3M service augments the Fond du Lac Library’s current e-books provider, OverDrive, which is shared with the rest of the state.

“Our patrons will have more e-books available to them more often through this exclusive service,” said library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse. “The cloud should help shorten the time our readers have to wait for the most-popular e-books.”

Fond du Lac Library is the first in Wisconsin to offer their patrons the 3M Cloud, which makes e-books accessible across different internet-enabled platforms, such as smart phones and iPads. The e-books can be downloaded onto e-readers through home computer connections. 3M currently is not accessible on Kindle e-readers, although the company hopes to offer that service soon. OverDrive, the state shared e-book library, is Kindle-compatible.

The 3M e-books are listed in the library’s online catalog as well viewable at a new Discovery Station located on the first floor of the Main Library. The Discovery Station’s easy-to-use touch screen lets patrons scroll through the 3M Library, search for titles, read reviews and check out e-books to their account.
