Forget about waking up at 3 a.m. to freeze in line at the mega-mart. Shop smarter this holiday season by attending Black Friday Boot Camp at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
Kids ages 6 to 12 are invited to celebrate the release of the eighth Diary of a Wimpy Kid book at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s free party from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, November 1. Kids can just drop in at the McLane Room in the library’s lower level after school lets out early for the day to enjoy snacks, a movie, crafts and fun in a relaxed atmosphere.
Have you ever wondered about that thing you found while digging in the yard? Maybe it’s a piece of pottery or perhaps an ancient tool. Bring it to the November 4 meeting of the Fond du Lac Genealogical Society, when local Secrets of the Ledge author and “archeo-historian” Dwight Weiser will take a look.
It’s getting closer: that day you set aside to decorate for the holidays. The Crafternoon program at the Fond du Lac Public Library will help add a festive flair. Using upcycled book pages, ribbon and a few beads, crafters will make a retro-cool Holiday Greeting Bunting at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 16. Space is limited, and registration is required beginning at 9 a.m.
Kids restless? Need to get out of the house? Take in a free family movie at the Fond du Lac Public Library with the new Sunday Matinees program every third Sunday. The program starts off with I’ll Be Home For Christmas at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 17.
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion is a humorous story of a man finding love. Don Tillman is a professor of genetics at an Australian university. He is extremely intelligent, quirky and probably has Asperger Syndrome. His only friends are Gene, also a professor and a philanderer, and Gene’s wife Claudia, a clinical psychologist. Don decides he wants a wife and gets advice from Gene and Claudia. He makes a questionnaire to weed out smokers and those who are chronically late. Then Rosie comes into his life. She smokes and is chronically late.

Be careful, read a few of these and you may have to sleep with the lights on!
