The Idea Studio has two 3-D printers. To help trained users get more fun out of the machines, the library is offering two programs teaching 3-D design on TinkerCAD at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, and repeated at 6 p.m. Monday, October 24. TinkerCAD, is a free web-based 3-D computer-aided design application designed for beginners.
Using pre-folded colored paper, tape and imagination, crafters will make a geometrically inspired note card at the 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15, Crafternoon program at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. Crafters will use the iris technique, so named because the end result looks like the inner workings of a camera lens.
Hexagons are everywhere at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio, the new makerspace. They’re found in the interior, in the logo and, most prominently, in a display at the entrance in the lower level of the library.
The “Budgeting Basics” class scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, has been canceled. Watch the library Calendar and e-newsletter for a reschedule date.
The Teen Library Council will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 9, and will meet the second Sunday of the month through the school year. The voluntary group meets to talk about the books, movies and music they like and to advise library staff on programs teens would find fun and interesting. Serving on the council, which acts as an advisory board to the library, satisfies community service and volunteer requirements at many schools. With snacks. Free; no registration required.
All ages are invited to come in costume to a special Halloween Storytime at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 22, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Storytimes at the library are fun and interactive, involving games and activities along with stories. Winners of the library’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest will be announced and prizes given following the stories. The program is free; no registration required.

Wannabe publishers, writers, thinkers, opinion-expressers are invited to Cut and Paste: Zine Workshop at noon Saturday, October 22, at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. Zines are usually small, handmade magazines that often focus on a certain topic. The beauty of a zine is it can be about anything and take on any appearance the publisher wants.
In a two-part class, beginning sewers will learn how to make a quilted blanket using T-shirts and fleece fabric at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s makerspace, the Idea Studio.
Will robots rule the world? Maybe so, but before that happens, they can be a lot of fun. High school kids interested in robots and coding are invited to Fondy Fire Robotics Experience from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio.
