Yarn Crafters meet Oct 12, 26

The drop-in Yarn Crafters group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursdays October 12 and October 26 at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Dreifuerst: Artist in Residence exhibit in Oct

Painter, potter and art educator Kathryn Dreifuerst was chosen as the Fond du Lac Public Library Idea Studio’s first artist in residence this summer. She had open hours working on projects in the studio and taught art classes to the public.

Booyah! From small-town cafés to supper clubs to church picnics, Wisconsin’s food culture is surprisingly diverse. In her 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, October 19, History at Home presentations, food writer Terese Allen will explore the stories and multilayered meanings behind Wisconsin’s eating history.

Learn Mexican pan de muertos Oct 17

In Mexico, preparations begin early for the annual Dia de los Muertos celebrations that run October 31 to November 2. It’s a time set aside to remember friends and family who have died, and like any good holiday, it has its own special foods. One of those – pan de muertos (bread of the dead) – will be featured in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Breads of the World series.

Make a coaster set Oct 21

Use upcycled CDs, twine and fabric scraps to make a handy set of coasters for the home at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, October 21, Crafternoon programs at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Supplies provided. The free programs are identical and open to adults and teens age 13 and older. Space is strictly limited. No walk-ins or under-aged children allowed.

The Fond du Lac Public Library, with a little help from its friends, is offering Try Something New, a series of classes at 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month in the library’s Idea Studio in the lower level. All are free; no registration required.

Opportunity Center hours change Oct 1

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s Opportunity Center is a free computer lab resource where under- and unemployed people can get help looking for work, writing resumes and researching employers. The center is staffed by local volunteers who work one-on-one with users, many of whom lack computer skills.

Operating hours are changing. As of October 1, the center will be open Monday through Thursday, 4-7 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon.
