Half off fines on Black Friday Nov 24

You can wait in line, throw elbows and scramble for deals at the superstore. Or you can spend Black Friday in the pleasant confines of the Fond du Lac Public Library and get a great deal. On Friday, November 24, the downtown Main Library will offer half off all fines, 9 a.m. to noon. No restrictions. Pay half your fees – overdue, lost, damaged, etc. – and clear your account.

Learn to make ciabatta Nov. 21

A loaf of ciabatta bread looks so rustic and simple that one could assume it was created by Italian monks around 1400 or so. In fact, ciabatta was invented in 1982 by a Verona baker who named the loaf (ciabatta means slipper) because he thought the shape resembled his wife’s favorite footwear. In the intervening 35 years, ciabatta has become a favorite worldwide.

All October long, the Fond du Lac Public Library is celebrating the book, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, the fictional story of Auggie, a 10-year-old boy born with severe facial deformities who deals with cruelty and kindness in his first classroom experience.

Local author Mark J. Engels will sell and sign copies of his paranormal sci-fi thriller, Always Gray in Winter, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 11, at Chapter 52 Bookstore, next door to the Fond du Lac Public Library at 52 Sheboygan St.

Learn to use free marketing database Oct 16

Fond du Lac Public Library account holders have free access to the business-marketing tool, AtoZdatabases. Representatives from the online resource will explain and demonstrate its features at a free class at noon Monday, October 16, at the library. The 45-minute session is free; no registration required.

Block printing, video editing at Idea Studio in Oct
