Butterfly Sister by Amy Gail Hansen

Author Amy Gail Hansen went to Carthage College in Kenosha and her debut novel is set at Tarble College, a fictional women’s college in Kenosha that is based on the Carthage campus. (As an alumna of Carthage I really enjoyed the descriptions of the campus!) Main character Ruby Rousseau dropped out of Tarble at the end of first semester her senior year after trying to commit suicide. She is now living with her mother in Oak Park, IL and seeing a therapist. Then a suitcase arrives at her house with her name on the tag. She borrowed the suitcase from Beth Richards, an acquaintance at college.

Volunteer to hand out free books

Fond du Lac Public Library will be a distribution center for World Book Night, April 23, 2014, the annual global effort “spreading the love of reading, person to person.”

Friends donate for book-cover technology

Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library, represented by board member Barbara Lukas, center, donated funds to purchase a new machine that covers library books more quickly and economically. Colleen Sweeney of the library’s Technical Services Dept. demonstrates the machine for Lukas and library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse. The clear, custom-fit covers are available to the public for $3 each. The nonprofit Friends organization promotes and encourages the use of library services by fundraising, supporting special events such as Fond du Lac Reads and providing programs for the community.

Got a question? Book a Librarian

Ever wish you had someone at your elbow to teach you stuff? Like how to use that new e-reader. Maybe digging into your family tree. Or just getting more comfortable with the internet. You can, now, with the new Book a Librarian program at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

A romantic tale with a naughty title

You can't help but get caught up in the drama-filled life of Quinn Barton in Beth Harbison's latest book with the somewhat naughty title. Perfect for lighthearted chick lit fans, Chose the Wrong Guy, Gave Him the Wrong Finger is a tale of unrequited love, but told in a way that makes it funny, light, and romantic, with just enough seriousness to not be fluffy.

The annual Holiday Wine Tasting, organized by Cujak's Wine Market, will be held 5-7 pm Saturday, November 9, at Fox Valley Savings Bank. The event again will benefit the Fond du Lac Public Library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten literacy program.

'A Dog's Life' all month in the gallery

This year, the annual Fond du Lac Reads program celebrated the memoir, Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero, by Michael Hingson. The subject matter has inspired the November exhibit, A Dog’s Life, in the library’s Langdon Divers Gallery.
