Spark Your Child’s Nonfiction Reading

Over the past couple of years, you may have noticed your child’s teachers placing greater emphasis on reading nonfiction. With the adoption of the Common Core Standards, elementary aged students are now expected to spend 50% of their reading time on literature and 50% on informational texts (nonfiction) to help them develop a deeper knowledge of the world.

The last four programs in Dr. Rick Whaley and Herman Bender’s “Big History: From the Revolution to the Mexican War” eight-part series will run at 6 p.m. every Wednesday in March at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The programs are free; no registration required.

Students’ artwork on display

In a colorful, creative celebration of March as Youth Art Month, artwork by students of the Fond du Lac School District will be on display at the Main Library downtown and FDLPL Express branch.

Through March, artwork by students in middle school and high school will be on display at the Main Library downtown, and artwork by students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be on display at FDLPL Express Branch, near Festival Foods.
