Cujak donates $3,300 to literacy program

Sara Cujak hosted the Cujak’s Wine Market Holiday Wine Tasting at the Fond du Lac Public Library in November. Amid the wine sampling, hors d’oeuvres and chocolate tasting, serious business was under way: early literacy.

On February 6, Cujak donated $3,300 in proceeds from the wine event to the library’s program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. The free program aims to reinforce parents’ role as their child’s first and best teachers, introduce children to reading materials and to encourage families to use the public library. More than 60 children have finished 1,000 books since the program launched in January 2012.

“Educators are finding more and more evidence of the vital importance that reading to the very young has on child development,” said library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse. “Sara’s generosity will sow the seeds for decades-long benefit to our community. We are very grateful.”

The donation on Wednesday was not unprecedented: in 2011, Cujak donated $2,800 from that year’s wine event.

Information about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is available online or by calling the Children’s Desk at (920) 322-3940.
