Book artist, professor and maker Steve Miller will explore the power of making things by hand in Making in a Digital World, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required. Miller’s presentation is sponsored by UW-Fond du Lac, where he will give his talk on campus the same day.

It started over summer and went over gangbusters, so the Fond du Lac Public Library will bring back its tech programs for kids. Techie Thursdays, held the third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m., will encourage kids ages 7-12 to get in the tech zone with hands-on, creative projects. Some involve mechanics, some don’t, but all are maker-y. The program is free; no registration required.

Incredible digital creativity will be on display in Altered Images, photographer Dale Van Minsel’s show in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery September 2 to October 7. The exhibit features a collection of photographs captured with both a conventional camera and an iPhone. The images in the show were edited using mobile apps.
When cocooning season hits, it’s good to have a fun indoor hobby. Crafternoons at the Fond du Lac Public Library and Jan Stoegbauer to the rescue. Beginning Knitting will be offered 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 19. Signup starts September 5.
Since the earliest days of railroading, Fond du Lac has been a hub. In her program, Following the Train Tracks, at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 17, local historian Tracy Reinhardt will share stories and photos from Fond du Lac’s early days of railroading, including depots and famous wrecks.
