Bootlegging program repeated Sept 23

Local historian J.J. Jenkins will repeat his program Bootlegging and Moonshining in the Holyland at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Techie Thursdays start Sept 17

It started over summer and went over gangbusters, so the Fond du Lac Public Library will bring back its tech programs for kids. Techie Thursdays, held the third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m., will encourage kids ages 7-12 to get in the tech zone with hands-on, creative projects. Some involve mechanics, some don’t, but all are maker-y. The program is free; no registration required.

'Healthy Waters' program Sept 30

The Clean Waters Project and Lake Winnebago Quality Improvement Association will present Agricultural Efforts for Healthy Waters at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Shine On Session: Teen Dating Violence Sept 21

Agnesian HealthCare’s monthly domestic violence awareness program, Shine On Sessions, will review the dynamics of a violent relationship in the program, Teen Dating Violence, at 6 p.m. Monday, September 21, at Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required.

The overview, facilitated by Amy Rodriguez, Agnesian HealthCare's Domestic Violence Program prevention educator, will cover the warning signs of a violent relationship.

'Altered Images' in gallery in Sept

Incredible digital creativity will be on display in Altered Images, photographer Dale Van Minsel’s show in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery September 2 to October 7. The exhibit features a collection of photographs captured with both a conventional camera and an iPhone. The images in the show were edited using mobile apps.

Signup starts Sept 5 for 'Beginning Knitting'

When cocooning season hits, it’s good to have a fun indoor hobby. Crafternoons at the Fond du Lac Public Library and Jan Stoegbauer to the rescue. Beginning Knitting will be offered 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 19. Signup starts September 5.

History of FDL railroading Sept 17

Since the earliest days of railroading, Fond du Lac has been a hub. In her program, Following the Train Tracks, at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 17, local historian Tracy Reinhardt will share stories and photos from Fond du Lac’s early days of railroading, including depots and famous wrecks.

Chapter 52 grand opening set for Sept 12


It’s new, it’s fun and it’s the best bargain in town: Chapter 52, the Fond du Lac Public Library’s used-books-and-more store, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, September 12, in conjunction with Fondue Fest.

The Finnish Girl by Dennis Frahmann

The Finnish Girl is an absorbing tale of loss, regrets, and secrets that highlights the little known history of Finns in Wisconsin. The novel opens in 1983 on a farm in far northern Wisconsin as fourteen year old Danny discovers that his mother Lempi has committed suicide. The story then backtracks to Milwaukee in 1967 when Lempi is thirty-four years old and working at fictional Bremen College. Her mentor, Pauline, from her hometown of Clover helped her get a job there.
