Come. Sit. Stay. on Oct 12

The library is hosting Come. Sit. Stay., a fun, dog-themed event for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 12. The event is free and open to all and includes:

• 11 a.m.: Basic Dog Grooming. Do’s and don’ts anyone can do at home to keep their pets happy, clean and healthy presented by Chris Lang of Tails A Waggin of Fond du Lac.

• Noon: McGruff the Crime Dog meets and greets kids.

• 12:30 p.m.: Officer Ryan Williams and K-9 Grendel demonstration.

• 1 p.m.: Meet Jake and Charlie. Jake Guell will bring Charlie the companion dog, who he’s training for Teagan Marti, who was injured in 2010 when she fell 100 feet from an amusement park ride at the Wisconsin Dells. Charlie was named for actor Charlie Sheen, who donated $10,000 for the dog’s training and care.

• Also:

o Visit with Browser the library mascot and his new doghouse

o Stop in the Children’s Room for a make-and-take dog craft

o Local author Joellyn Dahlin with sign and sell copies of her dog-themed kids’ books

o BookCellar sale: Teens' and kids' chapter books half price (regularly 50 cents)

o Enjoy goodies from the dog-themed bake sale

As a bonus, the library will be offering pet supplies for fines all day Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13. For each new pet supply item (food, toys, leashes, etc.) donated, the library will waive $1 in overdue fines. Supplies will be accepted at the Main Library downtown and FDLPL Express, near Festival Foods. All supplies donated will be given to the Fond du Lac Humane Society.

Come. Sit. Stay. is part of the library's month-long celebration of Fond du Lac Reads: Thunder Dog, by Michael Hingson. It's the true story of how he and his guide dog survived the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center.
