Teen Read Week Oct 13-19

School’s going full speed ahead, and that means homework, projects due, chapters to finish. Teens need a break. Why not do something just for the fun of it?

Great idea: Teen Read Week October 13 through October 19 suggests escaping deadlines and worries by opening up a good book and getting together to have fun. Teens in grades six through 12 are invited to celebrate at these free events. No registration required:

  • Edible Book Picture Contest: Pick up your edible book kit at the Children’s Desk any time September 30 through October 17. Make your edible book, stage it in a photo and email your shot to Sarah Newton at snewton@fdlpl.org. The best photos will be declared winners (and prizes awarded) at the Wrap-up Party October 18. All the photos will be displayed in the Main Library’s teen area.
  • Kickoff Party: 1 p.m. Sunday, October 13. Teens will make their own moveable mummy, watch the movie “The Mummy” (of course) and snack on delicious alien cake pops.
  • Wrap-up Party: 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 18, in the Board Room. A pumpkin-flavored experience. Winners of the Edible Book Picture Contest will be announced. Prizes awarded. And of course there will be plenty to snack on.
