Santa, gingerbread & more for kids in Dec

As everyone knows, Santa and Mrs. Claus love to read, so nobody’s surprised that the duo’s making a stop at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Their visit is just one of the great events for kids at the library in December. All programs are free. Only one requires registration. For all, children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult:

Learn block-print carving Dec 2

Learn how to program the CNC Carvey machine to cut linoleum blocks for printing at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 2, at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. Attendees will be trained on the Carvey and will learn about lino-block printing, including preparing and inking blocks, reviewing printmaker’s tools and how to use a small press.

Learn 3-D design, make a bracelet Dec 28 & 29

Students can take advantage of the holiday break and learn how to design and print a 3-D linked bracelet at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. Open to teens 13 and older and adults, the Idea Studio is offering the bracelet program four times: 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, and Friday, December 29. Space is limited; online registration is required and starts at 9:30 a.m.

Make reversible neck warmer Dec 6, 7

Learn to make a great holiday gift – a cozy, warm reversible neck warmer – while getting trained on either the sewing machine or the serger in classes at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. The free classes are open to adults and teens age 13 and older.

Learn Danish aebleskiver Dec 19

In Denmark, the holidays are marked with the presentation of a steaming-hot plate of aebleskivers, spherical “pancake puffs” cooked in a special cast-iron skillet and served with lemon juice, syrup and jam.

Something New: Painted Totes Dec 14

The Fond du Lac Public Library, with a little help from its friends, rounds up its four-part Try Something New series at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 14, with Painted Totes class. The program is free; no registration required.

Holiday HQ: Chapter 52 Bookstore

Chapter 52 Bookstore, located at Sheboygan and Marr streets next to the Fond du Lac Public Library, is rolling out the bargain carpet for holiday shoppers.

Make wooden ornaments Dec 9

Crafters will turn rustic slices of wood into lovely holiday ornaments at the 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, December 9, Crafternoon programs at the Fond du Lac Public Library. All supplies provided.

Out and About in the County

We love visiting! The past month or so, youth services staff have had a blast getting out in the community. We go to school events, day care groups, community events, and more! FDL Artists’ Association show Nov 1-Dec 5

The Fond du Lac Artists’ Association will hold its annual membership show from November 1 to December 5 at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery.
