Upcycled Glam Accessories sign-up starts Jan 4

It’s pretty amazing what can be made from discarded books and a few odds and ends. Crafters will make a braided bracelet and beaded necklace using just those materials at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Upcycled Glam Accessories Crafternoon program. Space is limited, and registration is required beginning at 9 a.m. January 4 at the Calendar, or by calling the Help Desk at (920) 322-3929.

The program is being held in conjunction with the library’s Upcycled Glam, a contest that challenges teens to create a special-occasion outfit that uses a combination of upcycled clothing and upcycled pages from books or magazines. Entries are not due until April 1, after when they will be put on display in the library’s Langdon Divers Gallery in May. The winner will receive a new, latest-model iPad and will be featured in press releases, social media and the library’s website. Complete contest rules and guidelines are available online or by contacting Terri Fleming at [email protected].

Crafternoon takes place every third Saturday of the month with a different make-and-take project for adults and teens in middle school and older. Supplies are provided. It was inspired by a similar program at the New York Public Library that’s run by Maura Madden, who wrote, Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long.
