Applications accepted for Idea Studio summer residency

Drop by the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio and you’re likely to see all kinds of creativity underway. Teens could be composing an original rap inside the recording studio. Students could be ogling a friend’s latest 3-D printer masterpiece. A grandfather could be machine-carving a nameplate for his family. To celebrate and enhance the makerspace’s devotion to creativity and invention, the Idea Studio is offering a summer residency program.

Budding historians invited to My Hometown May 17, 24

Historians Dr. Rick Whaley and Herman Bender know there’s much to learn and uncover about our local history. In their annual wintertime history presentations at the Fond du Lac Public Library, now into year four, they’ve uncovered an enormous local appetite for the stories of our past.

Before they were movies...

Did you know some of your favorite movies are actually based-off a book? The animated movie Coraline is based off the book with the same name by Neil Gaiman. The out of this world adventure of Home is based off the book The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex. Often times the movie will be different from the book. The next time you visit the library we would love to hear if you liked the book or the movie more.

Game on! Teens party down in Feb

Teens in grades 6 through 12 have a lot of fun options at the Fond du Lac Public Library in February. All programs are free; no registration required.

At the Teen Game Party at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 18, teens will hang out, snack and play new and classic tabletop games, including Apples to Apples, Battleship and Ticket to Ride. Door prizes included.

Antique photos in gallery Feb 1-28

It began with Civil War re-enactments and the collection of Civil War artifacts. Then Richard and Gloria Schroeder began zeroing in on antique photos, ultimately developing a passion. Their collection today represents countless hours scouring antique stores and the internet, amassing images themselves and the stories behind them.

'Getting Started' Feb 15 with Makey Makeys

Want to explore and expand your tech side? In two Getting Started classes at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio, makers will learn how to use the Makey Makey and Raspberry Pi, equipment that’s available free for checkout with a valid library account. Getting Started classes are free and open to adults and children aged 13 or older. Space is limited; online-only registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
