THELMA dominates Team Trivia 2014

One team was double trouble for opponents, winning both nights of the 14th annual Fond du Lac Literacy Services Team Trivia at Whispering Springs Golf Club.

When Team THELMA (Phil Shepherd, Jaqui Corsi, Andrew Lang and Kevin Miller) beat 23 teams on March 11, they earned the right to return for free on March 13 (with Brendan Wood-Taylor subbing for Miller). They came back and beat 22 more teams to win again.

Second place on March 11 went to the team Better Call Saul (Mark Jurgella, Tracy Jurgella, Gina Rieder and Steve Klein). The First Presbyterian Cabinet (Pedro Arellano, Kevin Braatz, Chris Boulay and Brian Conran) won third place.

On March 13, second place went to The Z Team (Bill Zeleske, John Zeleske, Mary Gorske and Dan Zeleske). Ledgers for Literacy (Hank Lindborg, Mary Lindborg, Tom Kitchen and Clarence Davis) took home third place.

The evenings started with live music by Daryl Rogers and a dinner buffet catered by Whispering Springs. The quizmaster outdid himself this year, with some relatively easy questions (The title of what classic arcade video game was inspired by a Japanese onomatopoeia that describes the sound of eating? Answer: Pac-Man) and some groaners (What garment comes in various types including: pancake, bell, platter, romantic, and Karinska? Answer: tutu).

Winning teams took home gift certificates from Backyard Bar and Grill, The BookCellar, Commonwealth Coffee and A&W.

The event included a raffle for a Kindle Fire HD, donated by Alliant Energy; golf for four, donated by Whispering Springs; an autographed Packers football, donated by the Packers Foundation; and themed gift baskets with contributions from Ang and Eddie’s Pizza, The BookCellar, Chimera Hobby Shop, Fond du Lac Children’s Museum, Green Bay Packer Foundation, Massage for Good Health, the Renaissance Salon and Day Spa, and Saavy Boutique.

Contributing to make the event a success were Whispering Springs, Backyard Bar and Grill, Record Entertainment, Radio Plus and the Fond du Lac Public Library.

The event is a fund-raiser for Fond du Lac Literacy Services, which provides free one-on-one tutoring for adults who struggle with reading, writing, math or learning English. Plans are underway for the 15th annual Team Trivia in 2015. Persons interested should contact the Fond du Lac Literacy Service office at (920) 322-3932 or [email protected].

Their feat was a repeat (with Kevin Miller in Wood-Taylor's place) of winning the top spot on March 11.
