A story of friendship set at a vintage clothing shop in Madison

Three women, Violet, April, and Amithi, deal with their problems and bond at the Hourglass Vintage shop in Madison in the debut novel Vintage by Susan Gloss. This is a feel-good story that should appeal to people who like Cecelia Ahern, Elizabeth Berg, and Debbie Macomber. Each chapter starts with a description of a vintage item that is featured in that chapter’s storyline. Main character Violet came to Madison from the small Wisconsin town of Bent Creek to open a vintage shop after divorcing her alcoholic, abusive husband. Violet would like to find love again and have children, but she has more pressing problems. She is facing eviction from her shop as a developer wants the property which has now become very valuable. Wealthy widow and patron of the shop, Betsy, has arranged for scholarship winner and pregnant teen, April, to intern at the shop. April had been to Violet’s shop previously when she bought a vintage wedding dress for her wedding which is now cancelled. Amithi, who came to the United States from India, has items she wants to sell to Violet after finding out that her husband cheated on her. Will Violet be evicted? Will she find the love she is looking for in her new boyfriend Sam? Will April get back together with Charlie, her former fiancé and father of her baby? Will Amithi be able to forgive her husband Naveen? Read the book to find out!
