Calling all '80s board games

Have a box of forgotten board games? Maybe Scattergories? Operation? Pictionary? The Fond du Lac Public Library seeks donations of 1980s-era board games for an event in the fall.

Some of the decade’s most-popular games include Trivial Pursuit, Boggle, Trouble, Connect Four, Hungry Hungry Hippos and Balderdash. The library is planning an ’80s Game Night in October to celebrate its 2014 Fond du Lac Reads book, “Ready Player One,” by Ernest Cline.

“Ready Player One” is about an 18-year-old orphan in post-collapse 2045 competing in a deadly global virtual reality game for billions of dollars and perhaps the chance to save the world. The game the hero plays was designed by a genius obsessed with 1980s American culture. Fond du Lac Reads event will celebrate gaming, technology, puzzle solving and the ’80s.

Donated board games in good condition can be dropped off at any library location. Games will not be returned.
