Make Dixie Cup Lights Dec 6

Crafters will use Dixie Cups, upcycled book pages and stamps and inks to add some retro warmth to a string of holiday lights in the December 6 Crafternoon program at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Crafters must bring their own strand of twinkle lights (50 lights maximum) to make a festive garland in the program that runs 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for adults and teens in middle school and older.

Registration is required for Crafternoons; Dixie Cup Light String sign-up starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 22, online at www.fdlpl.org, click Calendar, or by calling the Help Desk at (920) 322-3929.

Crafternoon, which normally takes place every third Saturday of the month (the December date was moved up to avoid holiday conflicts), was inspired by a similar program at the New York Public Library that’s run by Maura Madden, who wrote, Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long.

Crafternoon projects for 2015 include (note: sign-up for each begins at 9 a.m. two weeks before the program):

  • January 17: Beginning Knitting
  • February 21: Beginning Crochet
  • March 21: Upcycled Glam Accessories
  • April 18: Picture This Photo Frame
  • May 16: Book Page Box Vase/Planter
  • June 20: Woven Map Travel Journal
