'Connected By Coffee' film March 28

How did your triple-shot latte get from Central America to your lips? Find out at the showing of Connected By Coffee, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

The documentary film, called an “eye-opening behind-the-scenes look at the real world of coffee” by Video Librarian Magazine, follows two North American coffee roasters on a 1,000-mile journey of discovery across Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. They listened to the people who grew their coffee. They met soldiers-turned-growers, powerful women who took control of their destinies through coffee and countless small-scale farmers joined in cooperatives.

Viewers will learn about the basics of fair trade, cooperatives, social justice, shade grown/organic and coffee rust. The film invites the viewer to make conscious purchasing decisions and to learn more, get involved and take action.

The film is presented by the Just Fare Market Education Committee and Fond du Lac Fair Trade Town Steering Committee. Members will be on hand to introduce the film and facilitate a short Q&A. Refreshments (including coffee, of course) will be served.
