Tissue box planter Crafternoon sign-up starts May 2

Guests will never know that your pretty centerpiece started out as a lowly tissue box. Crafters at the May Crafternoon class at the Fond du Lac Public Library will create a vase or planter using upcycled boxes, book pages, glue and simple household items. The program from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, is free and open to adults and teens in middle school or older. All supplies provided. Space is limited. Registration is required and starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 2, online at the Calendar, or by calling the Help Desk at (920) 322-3929.

Crafternoon, every third Saturday of the month, was inspired by a similar program at the New York Public Library that’s run by Maura Madden, who wrote, “Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long.”

Crafternoon projects for 2015 include:

  • June 20: Woven Map Travel Journal
  • July 18: Picnic Table Caddy
  • August 15: Pet Placemat
  • September 19: Beginning Knitting (repeated from January)
  • October 17: Beginning Crochet (repeated from February)
  • November 21: Paper Pine Cone Ornament
