Journeys branch to become book exchange Jan 4

Journeys: a health resource center and the Fond du Lac Public Library are excited to join a nationwide movement to make books accessible to everyone through a new Take a Book, Leave a Book exchange starting January 4, 2016.

Take a Book, Leave a Book will replace the full-service library branch that has been operating at Journeys since 2011. The exchange welcomes everyone to take and leave books as they like, no lending, no charge. It will be similar in spirit to the Little Free Library movement, which began in Wisconsin in 2009 and has become an international phenomenon, but on a larger scale. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Library patrons will be able to check out, pick up items and place holds at Journeys through December. Those services at Journeys will cease with the New Year. Patrons can go to the remaining two locations: the Main Library downtown and FDLPL Express, near Festival Foods.

The transition will allow Journeys to continue its strong focus on health education and connecting people to Agnesian HealthCare health resources, while continuing to promote literacy and the love of reading.

Journeys will maintain the book exchange, and the library will provide books from Chapter 52 Bookstore to stock the shelves. The Journeys library branch has been staffed by hospital personnel. Changes at the hospital required the shift from a full-service library branch to a free book exchange.
