United for Diversity annual meeting Feb 8

The annual meeting of United for Diversity will be held Monday, February 8, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. A potluck will start at 5 p.m. (bring a favorite ethnic dish to share), and the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all; no registration required.

Guest speaker will be Ameerah McBride, director of equity and affirmative action at UW-Oshkosh. She most recently was deputy Title IX coordinator in the Office of Institutional Equity at Kansas State University.

McBride will speak about the importance of welcoming diverse people, what needs to happen for welcoming to take place and the importance of good role models for young black scholars.

“You become what you see,” she said.

McBride, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, will reflect on her time at UW-Oshkosh since arriving last January. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix and a juris doctorate from Ohio Northern University.
