Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body by Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson, the Golden Globe-winning, Oscar-nominated actress, and founder of the activewear line Fabletics, has just come out with a new book, Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body. Anyone who struggles with their body image should read this. It is a beautiful, insightful, and personal look at health from the inside out, an authentic plan for an authentic life from a woman who truly lives what she speaks.

My impression of Kate Hudson has always been that she is a genuinely nice person and is one of those people who seem to have a healthy glow about them. In Pretty Happy, she shares some of her secrets and tips to good health, and judging from the gorgeous pictures scattered throughout the book, she must be doing things right. From exercise to mindfulness to knowing what your body really needs to thrive, she pushes you to throw away your ideas around perfection and find your own "pretty happy". She also outlines her Four Pillars of Health; Cultivate an Intuitive Relationship with Your Body, Eat Well, Awaken Your Body, and The Miracle of Mindfulness. Hudson claims she learned a long time ago that trends and fads come and go and they are not long-term solutions, and explains that we all have to find what works best for us, and what allows us to be our own best version of ourselves. I, myself, try to eat healthy but there is always temptation out there and I find myself indulging in the not so good stuff somtimes. Hudson believes that just because you're eating "healthy" doesn't mean you can't have fun with food, and it is OK to cheat on your diet once in a while. I like that idea. As you might suspect, her mother, actress Goldie Hawn, has been a major influence in Hudson's life. When it came to food choices during childhood, Kate and her brother Oliver were given the freedom to make their own decisions but their parents would still find a way to guide them to making good decisions. Good eating habits were instilled in them at an early age, and still influence them today.

There is so much information in this book that I could go on for pages, but think I have given you a taste of what it is about. I highly recommend Pretty Happy and feel it offers readers inspiration for setting attainable goals to create balance in their lives. Kate Hudson's philosophy is straightforward: living healthfully is about simplicity, accessibility, positivity and throwing the idea of "perfection" out the window. I agree.
