2-part T-shirt quilt class Feb 23, Mar 9

In a two-part class, beginning sewers will learn how to make a quilted blanket using T-shirts and fleece fabric at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s makerspace, the Idea Studio.

Sewers will receive step-by-step instructions at 6 p.m. Thursdays February 23 and March 9. Most of the sewing work will be completed out of class time either in the Idea Studio or at home. Each participant must provide the T-shirts and fleece fabric: at least three yards of lightweight fleece fabric and 20 T-shirts if using just the fronts, or 10 if using fronts and backs. The shirts must be large enough to fit a 14-inch square cutout (typically adult size medium or larger).

The class for adults and children aged 13 and older is free, but registration is required. Online-only registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, at fdlpl.org, click Calendar. No walk-ins or younger children allowed. Attendees should read this project sheet thoroughly before the first class. Copies are available in the Idea Studio.

Most if not all of the sewing will be done on participants’ own time. The Idea Studio has two sewing machines to use, for free, but patrons must acquire badging (training) on the machines before use. Badging sessions are held regularly; the schedule is at fdlpl.org, click Calendar.

The Idea Studio is the library’s new permanent do-it-yourself zone in the lower level with equipment to use for free and DIY programming. The Idea Studio is open 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. More information is available at www.fdlpl.org/ideastudio and on the studio’s Facebook and Instagram pages, found at Idea Studio FDLPL.
