Author Ramirez at Chapter 52 on Aug 19

Local author Thomas Ramirez will sell and sign copies of his memoir, That Wonderful Mexican Band, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 19, at Chapter 52 Bookstore, next door to the Fond du Lac Public Library at 52 Sheboygan St.

Ramirez’s book captures his recollections of “the misadventures of a poor minority family with big dreams, as told by oldest son Thomas … the story is humorous, bittersweet and – above all – honest.”

Ramirez quit teaching to become a full-time writer in 1961. Since then he’s written more than 150 books under a variety of pen names and has worked for tabloids, including the National Enquirer. At 91, he’s still going strong: he's working on two new novels.

Chapter 52 Bookstore sells used books, movies, music and magazines for all ages at deep discounts. Bookstore hours: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2-6 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call (920) 322-3957 or visit www.fdlpl.org/chapter52.
