Programs for kids & teens in August

All Summer Reading @ the Library reading cards must be turned in at any Fond du Lac Public Library by August 11 to score great rewards. But summer programs for kids and teens continue well into August. The full roster of summer 2018 events is listed at fdlpl.org/summer2018 and at the Calendar.

August free programs for kids ages birth-12:

Special performers: Family-friendly performances by professional entertainers. Free tickets are required and are available only at the Children’s Desk at the downtown library on the dates listed below.

  • Zoozort Animal Show: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, August 4. Interact with live animals. Tickets available starting Saturday, July 28.
  • Glen Gerard, magician: 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 15. Exciting, funny and illusion-packed show. Tickets available starting Wednesday, August 8.

Whole-family programs: No registration required.

  • Family Lego Night: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2. Drop in for a casual evening of Lego fun.
  • StoryWalk Adventure at Hamilton Park: 10 a.m.-noon Friday, August 3. Drop in at Hamilton Park to enjoy a fun activity and August’s featured stories at the StoryWalk.
  • Bottle Chalk Art: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 9. Create layers of gorgeous colors in a jar that you’ll take home.

Programs for young friends: No registration required.

  • Toddler Storytime: 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 8. Ages 2 and under. 20 minutes of Storytime followed by 20 minutes of play in the Storytime Room.
  • Preschool Storytime: 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 8. Ages 3-5. 30 minutes of fun books, songs and more.

Programs for school-age friends: No registration required.

  • Amazing Race: 1-3 p.m. Monday, August 6. Race your way around the globe (AKA library), completing challenges and dodging roadblocks.
  • We ♥ (heart) Elephant and Piggie: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, August 14. We’ll read aloud favorite Elephant and Piggie stories. Design your own Elephant and Piggie puppets to continue the fun at home.

August free programs for teens grades 6-12: Free, no registration or library card required. Door prizes at every event.

  • Movie for Teens: 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 7. Watch Thor Ragnarok (PG-13) and enjoy epic snackage such as root beer floats, popcorn buffets or other awesome eats.
  • Cupcake Boss: 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, August 13. Blank canvas: blank cupcake. Design elaborate and colorful cupcakes, and snack along the way.
  • Grand Prize Pizza Party: 1 p.m. Saturday, August 18. Take a blind taste test, and crown one local pizza joint the 2018 Teen Favorite. Drawing for 20 grand prize winners. Partygoers entered into double-secret drawing for amazing door prizes.
