Smartphone photo class Aug 3


They’re so smart it’s scary, and more than half the U.S. population owns one, but just because a smartphone can take pictures, it doesn’t mean those pictures are really very good.

Two seasoned photographers will offer tips and advice to remedy that problem with Making the Most of Your Smartphone Camera, at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at the Fond du Lac Public Library downtown. The program is free, no registration required.

Artists invited to submit for 'A Dog's Life'

Area artists are invited to submit pieces for a themed exhibit, A Dog’s Life, at the Fond du Lac Public Library in October.

'Holes' to be shown July 16

The Solutions Center will show the movie Holes at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

The free movie (rated PG) is adapted from the best-selling novel by Louis Sachar. It tells the story of down-on-his-luck Stanley Yelnats (played by Shia LaBeouf), who’s sent to Camp Green Lake, where he’s thrown into the adventure of his life.

Rain and sunshine have worked their magic, and gardens across the Fond du Lac area are bursting with good health. Capture your gorgeous greenery with the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Picture a Garden display.

Buses to Books extended through August

The city Transit Dept. has extended the Buses to Books program through the month of August.

Every Thursday, kids ages 6 to 17 can ride to and from the Fond du Lac Public Library for free when show their library cards. Kids ages 6 to 9 must be accompanied by an adult; adults pay full fare.

BookCellar Bag Sale July 13

The BookCellar’s annual bag sale will take place Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Fond du Lac Public Library. The sale is being held in conjunction with the downtown Sidewalk Sale.

Seeking Scrabble boards

Fond du Lac Literacy Services is planning a Scrabble Bee fundraising event on October 3. Teams will compete for highest scores and prizes.

Buses to Books: Kids ride free

The Buses to Books program lets kids ages 6 to 17 can ride the bus to the Fond du Lac Public Library and back for free on Thursdays June 13 to August 1, 2013, using their library cards as bus passes. Kids ages 6 to 9 must be accompanied by an adult; adults pay full fare.

Free buds, cords for Audio Book Month

June is National Audio Book Month, and the Fond du Lac Public Library is celebrating by giving out free ear buds to kids and free car-adapter cords to adults when they check out Playaway books. Playaways are MP3-like devices loaded with just one book that can be paused, forwarded, reversed – run just like any digital player.
