Burgess wins Wisconsin Financial Literacy Award

Lori Burgess, Support Services coordinator at the Fond du Lac Public Library, received the 2012 Wisconsin Financial Literacy Award by Gov. Scott Walker in a March 1 ceremony in Madison.

Help for Homeless hygiene drive

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s downtown and Express locations will be drop-off sites for the annual Help for the Homeless hygiene drive through March 22.

Donations of new cleaning and personal care items such as laundry soap, hair and dental items, diapers and bathroom tissue, will be collected and distributed locally.

The local drive is part of a regional effort that includes Oshkosh, the Fox Cities, Manitowoc and Brown County and spearheaded by Appleton radio station 91.9/91.5 The Family.

Saturday March 2 an epic day at the library

Saturday, March 2, will be an epic day at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

eBay classes added in March

Due to popular demand, the Fond du Lac Public Library now is offering two additional How to Sell on eBay classes on Tuesday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. and repeated at 6 p.m.

The presentation will walk through setting up an eBay account and listing an item for sale.

'How to Eat Local' on March 20

The eat-local trend is mushrooming, with proponents such as food journalist Michael Pollan suggesting that buying local food conserves energy, supports farmers and preserves the natural landscape.

How to make that happen? Join farmer couple Paul and Sara Huber for How to Eat Local, 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Paintings in March gallery show reflect 'Today'

Works by local painter Nina Schmidt will be on display at the Fond du Lac Public Library gallery through the month of March. The exhibit, Today: The Smallest Moments Linger, reflects Schmidt’s life as an artist, mother and wife.

“Art can be functional, livable and beautiful,” Schmidt said. “But it should also tell a story.”

April Crafternoon: Storybook Birdhouse

Using a wooden birdhouse, upcycled children's books and lots of glue, you can create a one-of-a-kind indoor decoration at the 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20 Crafternoon program, Storybook Birdhouse. The program for adults and children in middle school and older at the Fond du Lac Public Library is free, but space is limited.
