75 Years of Mercury Marine

How did today’s leading manufacturer of recreational and commercial marine engines rise from the inadvertent purchase of 300 defective motors in 1939? Retired Mercury Marine executive Jim Hubbard will present “75 Years of Mercury Marine,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required. Refreshments will be served.

Calling all '80s board games

Have a box of forgotten board games? Maybe Scattergories? Operation? Pictionary? The Fond du Lac Public Library seeks donations of 1980s-era board games for an event in the fall.

Wisconsin's First Scientist July 24

He’s been called Wisconsin’s first scientist. Increase Lapham was an early chronicler of plants, rocks, rivers, mounds and all things Wisconsin.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24, authors Martha Bergland and Paul Hayes will present a program on the remarkable life and achievements of Lapham (1811-1875). The program is free; no registration required.

FDL's Forgotten Pipe Man July 17

Historian and author Sally Powers-Albertz will present Fond du Lac’s Forgotten Pipe Man, the 1909 story of Jared Taylor, a member of the Taylor Park family and pipe man (hose tender) for the FDL Fire Dept. at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Lake Winnebago spill discussion July 16

County Executive Allen Buechel will be joined by Beth Erdman from the Dept. of Natural Resources to discuss and answer questions about the recent Lake Winnebago manure spill and other polluted runoff at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
