The Fond du Lac Public Library, with a little help from its friends, is offering Try Something New, a series of classes at 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month in the library’s Idea Studio in the lower level. All are free; no registration required.

Opportunity Center hours change Oct 1

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s Opportunity Center is a free computer lab resource where under- and unemployed people can get help looking for work, writing resumes and researching employers. The center is staffed by local volunteers who work one-on-one with users, many of whom lack computer skills.

Operating hours are changing. As of October 1, the center will be open Monday through Thursday, 4-7 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon.

QPR suicide prevention training Sep 27

A licensed clinical social worker and local nurse practitioner will offer parents and guardians training in the innovative Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) approach to suicide prevention at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required.

Pizza & Pages meets Sep 20

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s teen book club, Pizza & Pages, will gather at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, to talk about Savvy, by Ingrid Law. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to come munch pizza, do a fun activity and talk about the book, a Newbery Honor tale of fantasy, magic and growing up.

Kids, teens celebrating Dot Day

The children’s book, The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds, tells the story of a young student’s blossoming creativity: her grumpy dot on a page turns into something wonderful. The book’s message has spread, and every year on “September 15-ish,” the world celebrates International Dot Day.

Sep sales at Chapter 52 Bookstore

Yarn Crafters to meet Sep 14, 28

The drop-in Yarn Crafters group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursdays September 14 and September 28 at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Uke Club meets Sep 2

The informal, drop-in Fond du Lac Ukulele Club will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 2, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The club is a fun get-together for uke players of all ages and skill levels to learn songs, practice and share. The program is free; no registration required. Players are encouraged to bring their own instruments.
