July sizzlin’ with programs at Idea Studio

Makers, doers and creative types are enjoying the extended summer hours at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio makerspace, where there’s equipment to use for free and lots of free programs for adults and teens age 13 and older.

The program lineup for July:

Girls at July 27 Coding Camp will create playlists

Girls in grades 6-12 can learn just how much they can do with computer coding at the second of three Girls’ Coding Camps 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio. Camp is free; lunch will be provided. Registration is required and begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, at fdlpl.org, click Calendar.

Book drive to help young summer readers

Children love books they pick out themselves. In an effort to get more books in the homes of local children, the fourth annual book drive by Family Connections, Inc., in partnership with Supporting Families Together Association, will benefit the hundreds of young readers participating in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s summer reading program.

Prairie ecosystems, Gottfried history talk Jul 10

Harkening back to an era when bison roamed our prairie-covered region, the Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum on the UW-Fond du Lac campus is an oasis of an ecosystem to be understood and treasured. Tracy McDermott, Gottfried executive director, will explain the history and value that prairies bring to our region at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required.

Memory Café celebrates the state fair Jul 26

Persons with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia, their caregivers and family members are invited to monthly Alzheimer’s Association Memory Cafés held at 1 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The themed programs are free; no registration required. Programs coming up:

Hand-sewers’ group meets Jul 25

The Fond du Lac Public Library hosts a monthly casual gathering of people interested in hand-sewing projects, From Our Hands. The group will meet from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, and will meet every fourth Wednesday of the month at the same time. Sewers of all skill levels are invited. Free. No registration.

Yarn Crafters meet Jul 12, 26

The drop-in Yarn Crafters group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursdays July 12 and July 26 at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
