Mega-Zine Sale Jan 2-4-6

The Fond du Lac Public Library will hold its annual Mega-Zine Sale January 2, 4 and 6 at Chapter 52 Bookstore. Bundles of magazines from 2013 will be sold for 50 cents each and will include such popular titles as Vanity Fair, Shape, Outdoor Life, Country Living, Sports Illustrated, Reader’s Digest and Wisconsin Sportsman.

Hanging planter craft sign-up starts Jan 2

Succulent plants seem to be everywhere these days, from party favors to home décor. Crafters at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s January 16 Crafternoon class will use air-dry clay and twine to make a hanging planter for a mini succulent. All supplies provided, including plant.

'Why We Love the Packers' presented Jan 21

Relive the highs and lows of pro football’s most successful franchise, from Curly Lambeau to Mike McCarthy, in a fast-paced presentation, Why We Love the Packers, at 2 p.m. and repeated at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The programs are free; no registration required.

Heartwarming story set in Door County is good reading for the season

Here’s a book for people who like Debbie Macomber and Jennifer Chiaverini--The Second Sister by Marie Bostwick. Set in fictional Nilson’s Bay in Door County, main character Lucy always felt like the second sister because her older sister Alice was bright and talented and her father’s favorite. When the sisters were in their teens, a near-drowning accident left Alice with a mental disability, and Lucy felt partially responsible. Lucy left Nilson’s Bay and now has a high powered job in politics.

Letters to Santa due Dec 7

When it comes to Christmas wishes, kids know it’s smart to put them in writing. Kids who drop off their letters to Santa at the Children’s Room at the downtown Fond du Lac Public Library by 3 p.m. Monday, December 7, will get a personalized reply by Santa mailed to their homes before Christmas.

For the third straight year, a fearsome foursome won top honors in the Fond du Lac Literacy Services annual Scrabble Bee, held November 5.
