Kids ages 6 to 12 who attend school in Fond du Lac School District get a bonus: early release on the first Fridays of the month starting in October. Parents perhaps aren’t as thrilled. The Fond du Lac Public Library has stepped in with a free program, Half Day Party at the Library, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every first Friday of the month starting October 2.
The Fond du Lac Public Library’s popular Storytimes programs resume on September 15.
All Storytime programs are drop-ins (no registration required) full of age-appropriate fun stories, songs and activities. Programs change weekly. Adults are encouraged to stay with their children; all children 5 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Why were bootleggers and moonshiners drawn to the Holyland during the Prohibition? Local historian J.J. Jenkins has been investigating the area’s notorious past and will tell tales at Bootlegging and Moonshining in the Holyland at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Six Playaway Launchpads are now available for checkout. The Launchpads are preloaded with age-specific educational, advertisement-free games grouped by topic (such as animals, dinosaurs and princesses) and by subject matter (such as math, science and the arts).
