'How to Eat Fried Worms' on Aug 20

The Solutions Center will show the movie How to Eat Fried Worms at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

The free movie (rated PG) is adapted from the popular book that tells the story of 11-year-old Billy, who bravely stands up to the school bully by accepting a total gross-out challenge.

Aug. 17 Crafternoon: Pull-Tab Jewelry

Well before upcycling became cool, Midwesterners honed the fine art of finding new ways to use discarded stuff. The August 17 Crafternoon program at the Fond du Lac Public Library will take that idea a step further. Pull-Tab Jewelry, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will use the lowly soda can pull-tab to make surprisingly pretty accessories. Space is limited, and registration is required beginning 9 a.m. Saturday, August 3, at the Calendar, or by calling the Help Desk at (920) 322-3929.

Smartphone photo class Aug 3


They’re so smart it’s scary, and more than half the U.S. population owns one, but just because a smartphone can take pictures, it doesn’t mean those pictures are really very good.

Two seasoned photographers will offer tips and advice to remedy that problem with Making the Most of Your Smartphone Camera, at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at the Fond du Lac Public Library downtown. The program is free, no registration required.

Artists invited to submit for 'A Dog's Life'

Area artists are invited to submit pieces for a themed exhibit, A Dog’s Life, at the Fond du Lac Public Library in October.

'Holes' to be shown July 16

The Solutions Center will show the movie Holes at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

The free movie (rated PG) is adapted from the best-selling novel by Louis Sachar. It tells the story of down-on-his-luck Stanley Yelnats (played by Shia LaBeouf), who’s sent to Camp Green Lake, where he’s thrown into the adventure of his life.

Buses to Books extended through August

The city Transit Dept. has extended the Buses to Books program through the month of August.

Every Thursday, kids ages 6 to 17 can ride to and from the Fond du Lac Public Library for free when show their library cards. Kids ages 6 to 9 must be accompanied by an adult; adults pay full fare.

BookCellar Bag Sale July 13

The BookCellar’s annual bag sale will take place Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Fond du Lac Public Library. The sale is being held in conjunction with the downtown Sidewalk Sale.

Seeking Scrabble boards

Fond du Lac Literacy Services is planning a Scrabble Bee fundraising event on October 3. Teams will compete for highest scores and prizes.
