Books make great gifts, and with a giant half-off sale at the BookCellar, gift-giving is a snap. The BookCellar is the library’s used books-and-more store located in the lower level.
On Saturday, November 12, Monday, November 14 and Saturday, November 19, books, movies, CDs and more are all half off (with exception of collectors’ materials and the newest best sellers). Hardcover books and CDs will be 50 cents; kids’ books and paperbacks just 25 cents.
The Fond du Lac Public Library’s first branch expansion is scheduled to open November 17. A grand opening for the 1,700-square-foot FDLPL Express, at The Shops at Johnson Crossing, is planned for Saturday, December 10.
The branch will feature a “to-go” collection of materials, emphasizing best sellers and new releases, a sizable children’s corner and materials to help with busy lives, featuring cooking, crafting, home repair and more. Patrons will be able to access the computer catalog, place holds and pick up materials.
It starts earlier every year, so it’s no wonder that months of holiday spending can create financial worries. Money Smart U is offering, Managing Holiday Spending (and Stress) on Tuesday, November 8, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the library's McLane Room in the lower level.
Paranormal explorer Curt Strutz, cast member of the cable show, “Paranormal Generation,” will present an exciting program rich in history, storytelling and personal experiences to set the mood for Halloween. “Visiting the Beyond” will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Monday, October 24, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is recommended for teens and adults.
Pets have always been an important part of my life; over the course of my life I’ve had lots of fish, a guinea pig, a rabbit and dogs. I currently have a cat. For me these creatures are like family and I like to learn the best ways to train, feed, and care for them. The library has tons of books on pet care. Here are three that I find particularly useful:
Dress up your dog, cat, ferret, turtle, wombat – anything goes – in his best Green Bay Packers finery and parade around the library (or inside, if weather is uncooperative) at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15.
Prizes for Best Use of Green and Gold, Most Like Lombardi and Most Enthusiastic Fan (pet, that is).
