Half-day Fridays programs for kids

Kids who attend school in Fond du Lac School District get a bonus this year: early release on the first Fridays of the month starting in October. Parents perhaps aren’t as thrilled. The Fond du Lac Public Library has stepped in with a free program, Half Day Party at the Library, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every first Friday of the month starting October 4 with A Ghoulishly Good Time. The movie Casper will be shown, and ghoulishly good treats served.

Teen Read Week Oct 13-19

School’s going full speed ahead, and that means homework, projects due, chapters to finish. Teens need a break. Why not do something just for the fun of it?

You CAN Go Home Again

Remember the old saying "you can't go home again"? Well, it certainly does not apply to Liza Palmer's newest book, Nowhere but Home. Though it is about trying to return home to a life left behind, the author takes some very serious subjects and manages to weave them into an emotional tale that is even lighthearted in some ways.

Upcycled Glam winner will get iPad

What do you get when you combine creative teens, a bit of glitz and the art of upcycling? If you’re really good, you get a new iPad.

Meet Jake & Charlie Oct 12

Jake and Charlie have been working side by side for more than five months. In that time, Charlie’s mastered such important skills as opening and closing doors, getting a tissue and picking up after his human friends. The duo’s work is nearly done.

FDL Reads celebrates 'Thunder Dog'

It was a national nightmare. Watching the 9/11 attacks on TV was unfathomable. Imagine sitting at your desk on the 78th floor of the North Tower and hearing a tremendous boom. Then the horror of feeling the building groan and tip.

The Widow Waltz by Sally Koslow

The beach scene with the cute little dog in a sweater might make you think it is a light beach read. Take my word for it, The Widow Waltz by Sally Koslow is anything but. It is a story of a wife and two daughters trying to move on after the death of their husband and father. It is hard enough to lose a loved one, but what if you discover the loved one you are grieving was not the person you thought they were, and the life of luxury you have been living is all based on lies?

2 great sales at The BookCellar in Sept

The city’s only used book store, the Fond du Lac Public Library’s BookCellar, is holding two great sales in September.

Customers shopping the Back to School Sale on Saturday, September 7, and Monday, September 9, will get one free children’s book with every purchase of $1 or more.

Sign-up starts Sept 7 for Magnet Board Crafternoon

Kids are starting school any day now, and that means the calendar will be filling up. The Fond du Lac Public Library Crafternoon program has a solution: Make a handy message board to get the gang’s attention. Crafters will have supplies provided to make one board and three magnets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 21. Space is limited, and registration is required beginning 9 a.m.
