'Following the Train Tracks' Sept. 17

Since the earliest days of railroading, Fond du Lac has been a hub. In her program, Following the Train Tracks, at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 17, local historian Tracy Reinhardt will share stories and photos from Fond du Lac’s early days of railroading, including depots and famous wrecks.

Summer Secrets by Jane Green

The title may sound like a typical beach read, but Summer Secrets by Jane Green is a rich, well developed story about how alcohol and its related disease and addiction can impact generations of a family across an ocean and on two continents. Anyone reading this book will relate to something as it deals with the heart and soul of society and real life issues. It is a sensitive and honest account and the author has made it as true as anyone could make it.

This guy knows his romance

Chris Harrison has been the host of ABC's hot series The Bachelor since 2002 and has spent his career helping men and women find their soul mate. Who better to write a romance novel? The Perfect Letter is Harrison's writing debut and, I have to say, this guy really knows his romance. Not bad for a first attempt. Light and easy, it is a must-read for Bachelor fans and hopeless romantics everywhere.

Calling artists for 'All Hallows Eve' exhibit

Artists are invited to submit samples for a special exhibit in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery. The All Hallows Eve exhibit from October 7 to November 4 will complement the library’s annual Fond du Lac Reads program – one book for the whole community, with programs to match.

Agnesian HealthCare’s monthly domestic violence awareness program, Shine On Sessions, will review the interventions available locally for victims of domestic violence at 6 p.m. Monday, August 17, at Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free; no registration required.

Bootlegging and Moonshining in the Holyland Aug 20

Why were bootleggers and moonshiners drawn to the Holyland during the Prohibition? Local historian J.J. Jenkins has been investigating the area’s notorious past and will tell tales at Bootlegging and Moonshining in the Holyland at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
