Two great sales are coming up in February at the Fond du Lac Public Library BookCellar, the city’s only used book store.
February 1 and February 3: Groundhog Sale, buy one hardcover mystery and get one free from a wide selection that includes authors Tom Clancy, Suzanne Alleyn, John Le Carré, Patricia Cornwell, Loren D. Estleman, Mary Higgins Clark and Faye Kellerman.
After the holiday hustle and bustle was over the only books I felt like reading were something light and easy. I checked my "to be read" book list and headed to the paperback shelves, grabbed a copy of Just One Kiss by Susan Mallery, and found just what I was looking for. Susan Mallery, author of the long running Fool's Gold Series, is one of my favorite authors. Just One Kiss takes you back to the town of Fool's Gold, California with all its warm and quirky characters, and is the first in a trilogy within the long running series.
Veteran travelers Valerie and Wayne Graczyk will share their photos, stories and travel tips at The Best of Greece & Mediterranean Isles travelogue program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The program is free, and no registration is required.
Greece is at the top of the Graczyks’ list of favorite travel destinations.
The Fond du Lac Public Library’s Opportunity Center is a free computer lab resource where under- and unemployed people can get help looking for work, writing resumes and researching employers. The center is staffed by local volunteers who work one-on-one with users, many of whom lack computer skills. This help is essential.
Grab a friend who’s into sports. Another history buff. And maybe a science nerd. Voila: you have the perfect Team Trivia roster. Or not. You’d probably do just as well by corralling a few friends for the 14th annual Team Trivia. The quizmasters are notorious for their off-the-wall questions, stumping college professors and algebra drop-outs alike.
Christmas is only days away, and I am sure many of you are rushing around trying to finish up all those last minute holiday tasks. It can be a stressful time, and sometimes you just need to take a step back and focus on what Christmas is really about. The library can help! Many people with new e-readers might not know they can use their Fond du Lac Public Library account to borrow e-books from the library. The library has several resources available to help people learn how to receive this free service.
Sometimes the in-betweens get lost in the shuffle. Tweens are too old for the little-kid stuff and too young to hang out with high schoolers. So the Fond du Lac Public Library is starting a program just for them: Tweentastic, the last Thursday of the month from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Kids ages 10 to 13 are invited to drop in to have fun for a hands-on, crafty time.
The popular Storytimes program for parents and young children at the Fond du Lac Public Library will resume on Tuesday, June 17. Kids think the sessions – full of stories, rhymes and songs – are a lot of fun. Parents know they reinforce and emphasize important early literacy skills.
