Food for Fines in September

Customers always are the top priority at the Fond du Lac Public Library, but during September, they’re elevated to an even loftier perch. September 2011 is Customer Appreciation Month, when the benefits of being a library patron are bountiful.

Fall Storytimes for kids start Sept 13

Fond du Lac Public Library’s Storytimes for children 12 months to 5 years old start September 13, no registration necessary. Parents and kids can drop in at their convenience. The three Storytimes are broken down by age group:

Meet the author of Lombardi biography

Pulitzer Prize winner David Maraniss will discuss his book, “When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi,” at the Windhover Center for the Arts on Thursday, October 13.

Maraniss will discuss his book with Fond du Lac Reporter Managing Editor Mike Mentzer at a free gathering at 7 p.m.

Packers' Super Bowl season photos in gallery show

The Green Bay Press-Gazette has a unique relationship with the Green Bay Packers. The home-town newspaper is as up close and personal as you can get with the historic franchise, and this closeness is readily apparent in “Back Home Again: A Photographic Journey of Green Bay’s 2010 Season.”

Job interview free class on Aug. 25

Interviewing: Selling Yourself Effectively to Potential Employers will give job seekers the tools they need to ace the interview at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 25, in the McLane Meeting Room in the lower level of the Fond du Lac Public Library. The Job Smart U class is free.

Community comes through for FDLPL Express branch

The Fond du Lac Public Library asked, and it has received. After announcing that it needed to raise $40,000 from the community to open an historic branch location, the library has surpassed its goal in just eight weeks.

“This is just phenomenal,” said library Director Ken Hall. “We now have the funds to open and furnish what will be a real asset to our community. We’re bowled over and very grateful.”

Rosendale satellite to close Aug 19

The Fond du Lac Public Library satellite location at the Rosendale Community Center will close; its last day of operation will be Friday, August 19.

The satellite – a parked bookmobile – had been operating at that location since February 2010. Previously, Rosendale was visited by the traveling bookmobile.

Family Game Day Sat Aug 13

The family that plays together comes to the Fond du Lac Public Library.

The Children’s Room and local business Fay’s Fun 'n Learning are hosting Family Game Day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 13, at the library. All ages are welcome for this free event, which will feature games such as The Camp Game, Blunders, Bingo Link and Spot It. No registration needed; just stop in.

Games will be provided, but families are welcome to bring favorite games they’d like to share with others.

Compost class PowerPoint

The library's July 19 presentation, Composting at Home, was a big SRO success, thanks to the expert advice given by Dr. David Demezas, of UW-FDL, and Sarah Everson, of Compost Joe's.

For attendees - and anyone else interested - the PowerPoint is now available online at www.fonddulac.uwex.edu.

Friendly dogs help young readers relax

Kids ages 6 to 12 who could benefit from practicing their reading are invited to participate in Paws to Read. Kids read aloud to certified therapy dogs in a relaxed setting. Studies have shown that reading aloud to dogs helps put the child at ease.
