According to the National Atlas of the United States of America, it's actually the third largest freshwater lake completely in the confines of one state (within the lower 48). The largest is Lake Okeechobee in Florida at 700 sq. miles and number two is Red Lake in Minnesota at 452 sq. miles.
Happy National Ice Cream Month! In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July National Ice Cream Month in recognition of the 90% of Americans who say they love ice cream. In fact, according to the International Dairy Foods Association, 9% of the milk produced in this country goes towards ice cream production. The ice cream industry generates about $21 billion in sales each year!
