The Fond du Lac Public Library’s first branch expansion is scheduled to open November 17. A grand opening for the 1,700-square-foot FDLPL Express, at The Shops at Johnson Crossing, is planned for Saturday, December 10.
The branch will feature a “to-go” collection of materials, emphasizing best sellers and new releases, a sizable children’s corner and materials to help with busy lives, featuring cooking, crafting, home repair and more. Patrons will be able to access the computer catalog, place holds and pick up materials.
To save more than $60,000 a year and to provide better service, the Fond du Lac Public Library is becoming an independent, standalone library. The library has been a member of the Winnefox Library Automated System, but this year the library board determined that the $103,000 annual Winnefox price tag was not providing good value to Fond du Lac city taxpayers.
Starting Monday, October 10, the Fond du Lac Public Library will lend out Nook and Kindle e-reader devices to anyone holding a local library card age 18 or older.
Every year the library encourages the whole community to participate in summer reading programs. Along with helping children hold onto critical reading skills through their break from school, the programs reinforce the importance of lifelong learning for all ages. The programs – for young kids, teens and adults – all encouraged reading with events and rewards.
Finding a job can be tough, but the surest way to find opportunities is through networking. Job Smart U at the Fond du Lac Public Library is offering “Networking for Job Seekers” at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 15.
A job seeker’s most-powerful resource is their network of friends, family members, colleagues and acquaintances. But, to many, networking seems intimidating. It doesn’t have to be. Presenter Don Herrmann will focus on how to develop and maintain a job-seeking network.
Fondue Fest takes place in downtown Fond du Lac on Saturday, September 10, and the library will play a big part.
Outside, near the library's Sheboygan Street entrance, the Children's Dept. will feature Sunshine the Clown, a make-and-take cheese bookmark craft, the dogs from the Paws to Read program, The Amazing Daryl and of course our very own Browser.
