Adult book clubs open to new members

The slow turn from summer to fall sends all sorts of signals to our bodies and minds. Even if a person’s back-to-school days are long gone, this can be a time when books and reading get extra attention. So it’s a perfect time to consider a book club.

Both of the Fond du Lac Public Library’s book clubs are accepting new members. Ladies of the Evening Book Group meets 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month, and the Afternoon Delight Book Group meets 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month.

Q&A with new library director

Jon Mark Bolthouse, 47, is a technology expert, father of 11-year-old Ivy, husband to Monica Walk and, in his spare time, an accomplished (and busy) keyboard and guitar player for the Madison-based band Fuzzy Side Up. He took over as director of the Fond du Lac Public Library on July 23.

BookCellar dries out in time for sale

The lower level of the Fond du Lac Public Library is clean and dry following flooding last week from a burst pipe. The BookCellar will reopen on Saturday, August 4, in time for a special sale. All books in the Finance section – on money management, personal finance, retirement, etc. – will be half price on Saturday and Monday.

Flooding causes BookCellar closure

A burst pipe in the lower level of the Fond du Lac Public Library will cause The BookCellar to close on Saturday, July 28, and Monday, July 30. The library plans to reopen the store on Saturday, August 4.

The flooding occurred sometime during Wednesday’s overnight storm that dropped about 2 ½ inches of rain on Fond du Lac. Some of the meeting rooms are closed temporarily for cleanup, but all other library programs and services are operating as normal.

2 BookCellar sales in August

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s BookCellar – the used books and more store in the lower level – is having two great sales in August.

On Saturday, August 4, and Monday, August 6, everything in the Business & Finance section is half off. The section includes books on personal finance, retirement, management and more that regularly sell for $1.

Kids know him as Captain Underpants, the evil school principal-turned underdressed superhero and the star of an extremely popular series of kids’ books.
