St. Nicholas sale at the BookCellar

The BookCellar is celebrating St. Nicholas Day with a two-day half-off sale. On Saturday, December 3, and Monday, December 5, books, movies, CDs and more are all half off (with exception of collectors’ materials and the newest best sellers).

Letters to Santa due Dec 5

When it comes to Christmas wishes, kids know it’s smart to put them in writing. Kids who drop off their letters to Santa at the Children’s Room at the Fond du Lac Public Library by Monday, December 5, will get a personalized reply by Santa mailed to their homes before Christmas.

5-year-old spends allowance money for the library

Five-year-old Ben Johnson has come all the way from Grand Prairie, Texas, to do a good deed in Fond du Lac.

While in town with his mother, Tracy Johnson, to visit Grandpa and Nana Bob and Elaine Stogsdill, Ben came to the Children’s Room at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Make room for Christmas: donate to BookCellar

Make room before the holidays by donating used books, movies, music, puzzles and games to the Fond du Lac Public Library BookCellar. It’s easy: label your materials as donations and drop them in the parking lot drive-by book drop or bring them inside to the Main Desk. Materials should be in good condition (no mold, no musty odors), and magazines, encyclopedias and text books are not accepted.

Borrow e-books for up to 21 days

Fond du Lac Public Library card holders can borrow e-books for free direct from the library’s website, www.fdlpl.org.

Through OverDrive Media, card holders can borrow books for most e-book readers, including Kindle, Nook and Sony E-Reader.

E-books can be borrowed for up to 21 days, and card holders can check out as many as 10 items at a time. They also can place holds on up to 10 items.

FDLPL Express to open Nov 17

The Fond du Lac Public Library’s first branch expansion is scheduled to open November 17. A grand opening for the 1,700-square-foot FDLPL Express, at The Shops at Johnson Crossing, is planned for Saturday, December 10.

The branch will feature a “to-go” collection of materials, emphasizing best sellers and new releases, a sizable children’s corner and materials to help with busy lives, featuring cooking, crafting, home repair and more. Patrons will be able to access the computer catalog, place holds and pick up materials.

Catalog to change Nov 3, some services to be disrupted

To save more than $60,000 a year and to provide better service, the Fond du Lac Public Library is becoming an independent, standalone library. The library has been a member of the Winnefox Library Automated System, but this year the library board determined that the $103,000 annual Winnefox price tag was not providing good value to Fond du Lac city taxpayers.

Nooks, Kindles available Oct 10

Starting Monday, October 10, the Fond du Lac Public Library will lend out Nook and Kindle e-reader devices to anyone holding a local library card age 18 or older.
